The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Two sheep, which resemble one another, are to be sacrificed for a boy, and one sheep for a girl."[Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud]
Aqeeqah is a way of showing gratitude to Allah and a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, and a means of seeking protection for the child, by the will of Allah.
How Many Sheep?
👦 For a boy: Two sheep that resemble one another.
👧 For a girl: One sheep.
Aqeeqah is performed all year round.
The Best Time for Aqeeqah
📅 Preferably on the 7th day after the child's birth.
🔁 If that is not possible, it may be done on the 14th or 21st day, and so on in 7-day intervals.
⚠️ It should not be delayed deliberately.
The Sunnah of Sadaqah
As part of the Aqeeqah, $10 is given in Sadaqah at the market price of silver. This comfortably covers the value equal to the weight of your child's hair in silver.
